The 8-5-8 line of cigars is one of Arturo Fuente’s best sellers (if not THE best seller), likely due to the fact that it’s quite simply one of the greatest values in the world of smokes for its price.
Legendary company founder Arturo Fuente had a hand in creating these cigars, as late family patriarch Don Carlos Fuente Senior explained:
“…My father showed me how to blend the tobaccos into a shape that later became known as the 8-5-8. And when my father passed away at the age of 85, as a way of honoring him and as a means of expressing our eternal love for him, we called it 8-5-8, so the number would be legible from both directions. It became very well accepted almost immediately… He was instrumental in originating this cigar.”
In this case, premium aged Dominican long-filler tobaccos (in an original blend created in 1975) are sealed with a Dominican binder and enclosed in a sweet, rich, earthy and rugged Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper to create a classic, mild-strength, consistently flavorful, medium-to-full-bodied cigar with outstanding construction, a slow, near-perfect burn and copious amounts of thick, creamy smoke.
Tastes imparted by the 8-5-8 Maduro include cedar, ginger, coffee, honey and sweet potato, along with a hint of white pepper and a pleasant, lingering finish. These are cigars that stay superb right up until the very end, unlike so many smokes.
Some say the 8-5-8 family is strictly for novices. But many of these same smokers end up staying loyal to the line for decades, and even a lifetime. Try some of these timeless sticks for yourself, and see what others have already discovered.
