The Padrón 1926 Series takes its name from the birth year of Padrón’s legendary founder and patriarch, the late José Orlando Padrón, who sadly passed away in 2017. But while José may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the 1926 series of cigars, of which this vitola is a delightful example.
The Serie 1926 No. 2 in a Maduro wrapper is memorably dark, oily and box-pressed, with a nipple at its tip. Making use of some of the oldest wrapper, binder and filler tobaccos in Padrón’s inventory, the “puro” Nicaraguan 1926 No. 2 Maduro boasts a medium-to-full body, full strength and a perfectly even burn and draw. It starts out meaty and spicy, with essences of white pepper and dark-roasted coffee beans, then loosens up with toasty, rich, earthy notes of vanilla and unsweetened chocolate, concluding with a mellow finish.
Cigar Aficionado accorded the Serie 1926 No. 2 Maduro a 92 rating and a 91 (twice). Suffice it to say that this delectable cigar is a welcome second member of the storied Serie 1926 line.
