The odd lots… The secret blends… The custom sizes… Whatever you want to call Drew Estate’s Liga Privada Único series, you can’t call it boring because these sticks are prized for their differences — what makes them unique, not what makes them regular and uniform.
The Único Dirty Rat (Rata Sucia) dates back at least as far as 2009, when some people outside the company finally got to sample these curious sticks. Fitting with its name, the Dirty Rat is a very dark, nearly black stick with a pigtail cap. Inside, no less than five different Nicaraguan and Honduran filler tobaccos are sealed with a plantation-grown Brazilian Mata Fina binder. The wrapper is Connecticut River Valley stalk-cut-and-cured sun-grown Habano-seed, bringing the total number of tobaccos used in these sticks to seven.
Proffering a lush, loose draw and flawless construction, the Dirty Rat burns evenly and delivers voluminous quantities of chewy, medium-to-full-bodied, medium-to-full-strength smoke. It mingles peppery, spicy, chocolatey, sugary, and licorice notes among underlying creamy, woody, wheaty nuances before culminating with an earthy finish. Available in a five-inch-by-44-ring-gauge Petit Corona size, the Dirty Rat was rated one point shy of 90 by Cigar Aficionado.
